Air India Derosters 3 Cabin Crew Members for Safety Lapse Involving Aircraft Door
In a recent incident, Air India has derostered three cabin crew members after a safety lapse involving a Boeing 777 aircraft on flight AI 176 from San Francisco to Bangalore. The issue occurred on September 15 when the aircraft landed at Bangalore’s Kempegowda International Airport. Due to an improper procedure, the aircraft door was opened while in “armed mode,” resulting in the auto-deployment of the emergency slides, according to internal sources.
What Happened?
An Air India spokesperson confirmed that the cabin crew reported a technical issue with one of the doors not functioning as expected upon landing. When the door was opened in armed mode, the emergency slides deployed automatically. Fortunately, no passengers were harmed, and the issue was quickly addressed.
Crew Members Derostered
As a result of the safety violation, three cabin crew members have been derostered pending an internal investigation. Engineers were called to replace the damaged emergency slides, leading to a delay in the return flight from Bangalore to San Francisco.
While the airline did not officially comment on the derostering action, they ensured that all safety measures were in place, and the aircraft was cleared for further operations.
No Further Damage
Air India clarified that there was no damage to the aerobridge during the incident, and passengers were able to disembark safely. Regulatory authorities have been notified as required by aviation safety protocols.
This incident highlights the importance of strict adherence to safety procedures, especially during critical moments such as landing.
